PODCAST PRE-INTERVIEW STUFF
Just a few important things to cover before we get started with the podcast interview
If you’re on this page, it means that we’ve likely scheduled or talked about having you featured as a guest for my podcast show, The Why We Travel Podcast.
I’ve put together the information to help answer some of the questions you may have and to help prepare you before we start our interview.
Please make sure to read through (only takes a few mins).
Calendar
We’ve most likely already booked a time and day. Once booked, you’ll also receive automatic reminders a day before with this page link, in case you’d like to go over the details again.
Audio
Good audio is super important for a podcast. Apple headphones and the likes are decent to start with; USB mics and those with XLR cables are the best but not necessary. It’s important to not do an interview directly into the computer speaker audio.
Also, please make sure to go to a quiet room or place that has little to no background sounds.
Headset/Earbuds = OK
Earbuds or headsets are ok. Again it’s best to avoid speaking right into the computer.
USB Mic = GOOD
Mics with auxiliary chords are the best option. They vary in price range but start pretty low here.
AUX Mic = BEST
Mics with auxiliary chords are the best option. They vary in price range but start pretty low here.
Video
All podcast interviews (unless requested otherwise) are recorded via video as well so please go to a spot with decent lighting and if possible, use a webcam. Most computer cameras are OK but ideally, webcams like the Logitech C920 are affordable and have great quality!
Connection
Make sure you have a strong internet connection; ideally wired but a strong WiFi connection is also good. Nothing will throw a conversation off more than the disrupted internet connection and lagging!
Recording
I use Zoom which is what we’ll record the interview on. When you schedule a chat, you’ll use that link to sign on and it’ll prompt you to open/download Zoom. Or I’ll email it to you. If you’re not familiar with Zoom, please make sure to double-check the video and audio settings to make sure it’s using the right mic and camera.
A few final things:
When will we start recording?
We won’t be recording right when the call starts. We’ll have a quick catch-up conversation and run through some of the questions and then get started with the recording.
How long will the interview be?
Generally, 25-30 minutes is good but if a conversation needs to go longer, that’s fine with me! I think some of the best conversations need some time to get into it.
Will this be live?
Nope, it won’t be recorded live. Unless we’re doing a special live episode or webinar. This means we can cut out or edit anything you’d like. I like to have real, transparent conversations but if you say something that should be edited or drop a name that you’d like to take out, just let me know during or after we record!
Is it OK to swear?
We try to keep it clean but if there are a few adult(ish) words here or there, it’s not a big deal.
When will my episode be published?
I’ll let you know when we plan to release your episode. Most go live within 2 weeks after we record. I’ll let you know as soon as it’s live so you can share it on your social media channel, email list & website.
Headshot Photo & BIO
Please email me your headshot/photo and your bio at hello@whywetravel.net that I can use to add to the episode post and show notes.
